Controversial Topic: Rights.
I am reading a book called Lies Women Believe by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. Lie #10 is "I have my rights." I found the following blog post to be a good summary of what DeMoss has to say about Rights.
"The fact is, successful relationships and healthy cultures are not built on the claiming of rights but on the yielding of rights." DeMoss
That's just what I needed to hear. It went along very well with what I had already been reading this morning about forgiving others for their sin in light of the cross.

I just read this last night! This can be a hard one to swallow. This book is loaded with stuff!
ReplyDeleteAs the writer of the blog you linked said, I think it's particularly hard for Americans who have sucked at the teat of the religion of autonomy. (OK, she didn't say exactly that.) Anyway, that's where the battle is for me, too, every day, multiple times: Do I surrender my rights to the Lord?
